Pada tanggal 27 Maret 2023, SD Muhammadiyah 4 Kota Malang menerima penghargaan Sekolah Adiwiyata tingkat nasional yang diserahkan oleh Walikota Malang, Sutiaji di halaman kantor Balaikota. Ini adalah prestasi luar biasa karena hanya beberapa sekolah yang dapat memenuhi standar yang ditetapkan dalam program Sekolah Adiwiyata.

SD Muhammadiyah 4 telah melakukan berbagai upaya untuk menjaga kelestarian lingkungan hidup di sekitar sekolah, seperti melakukan pengelolaan sampah yang baik, menanam pohon, serta mengadakan kegiatan penghematan energi dan air. Prestasi yang diraih oleh SD Muhammadiyah 4 dan 19 sekolah lainnya di Kota Malang ini mengukuhkan Kota Malang sebagai kota peduli lingkungan setelah sebelumnya Kota Malang meraih penghargaan adipura nasional.
